Box Score The Mary Baldwin men's soccer team tied Averett University 1-1 on Saturday afternoon. The game was called in the first overtime period due to inclement weather.
Five minutes into the game, a half-volley attempt by Carr Panetta went wide of the net. MBU (0-4-2, 0-4-2 USA South) had just two shots in the first half as the Cougars defense prevented them from gaining many opportunities.
Averett (4-2-1, 3-2-1 USA South) pulled ahead in the 57th minute when Kellen Fees split two defenders and placed a shot into the right side of the goal.
In the 77th minute after Eddy Casco was taken down, Dominic Fleming's free kick from nearly 30 yards out found the bottom right corner to tie the game at 1-1.
The Cougars outshot Mary Baldwin 22-14 and also had the advantage in corner kicks at 6-2.
Obdulio Argueta had eight saves in net for MBU.
The game closed out the season for the Fighting Squirrels as they will look to build on it come this fall.
