Box Score The Mary Baldwin ,men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season with a 2-0 victory Wednesday over Bridgewater College in non-conference action.
Bridgewater committed a foul in the box in the 13th minute of play and MBU's Stephen Blair converted the penalty kick for an early 1-0 lead.
The score was still 1-0 at the halftime break, but early in the second half the visiting Eagles applied pressure on the Fighting Squirrels back line. In the opening minute of the second half the Eagles had three good looks from close range and one corner kick opportunity. A free kick from 25 yards out was just wide and Mary Baldwin keeper Obdulio Argueta made two sprawling saves on shots from close range. The Squirrels were able to clear the ball out of the box on the corner kick to survive the Eagles' early second-half barrage.
The score remained 1-0 into the 77th minute when MBU added a key insurace goal. Ousmane Dansoko ran onto a long kick from Argueta and then beat the Bridgewater keeper with a low driving shot to put the home team on top 2-0.
Bridgewater held slim advantages in total shots, 16-13, and corrner kicks, 5-4.
Argueta turned in a sterling effort in goal, finsihing with seven saves to record the shutout.
