Methodist forward Kelsey Burge scored her second goal of the season in the 62nd minute of the Family Weekend match at Mary Baldwin's SMA Worth Field, lifting the defending USA South champion Monarchs (7-4, 3-1 USA South) to a 1-0 women's soccer victory over the Fighting Squirrels (2-7-2, 1-2-1 USA South).

The teams battled through a tight defensive battle for a scoreless first half, preserved by MBU junior forward Kaitlin Bower late in the period when she swept in to kick a shot out of harm's way just before it crossed the goal line and into the MBU net.

MBU GK Maddy Vinson had five other saves on 14 Methodist shots to lead a strong defensive effort by the home team.  Offensively, senior Shea Rider had three of Mary Baldwin's four shots on goal in the contest.

The Fighting Squirrels have two home USA South Conference matches this week ... first against Salem College Wednesday at 4 p.m.  Two days later, a re-scheduled battle with Meredith College will be played at SMA Worth Field, also at 4 p.m.
