Mary Baldwin boasted a balanced score sheet Saturday in a 75-69 men's basketball victory over the University of Dallas in the opening round of the 2024 Pablo Coto Tournament at Marymount (Va.) University.
Senior guard
Jaden Ignacio led the way for MBU with 15 points, but close behind were
Mekhi Reid with 14 points,
Zach Sloan with 12 points and
Logan Barbour with 10 points. Reid fell one rebound short of a double-double with a team-high nine caroms and he added two assists, two steals and both MBU blocked shots.
Reid and Sloan were instrumental in helping the Fighting Squirrels build a 16-point first-half lead against the Crusaders. Dallas battled back in the second half, and Ignacio's 8-for-8 performance from the free throw line in the final 64 seconds clinched the victory.
Dallas was led by Jack Boyle, who poured in 22 points and grabbed 16 rebounds - both game high totals.
The win lifts the Fighting Squirrels (2-1) into Sunday's 2 p.m. tournament title contest against host Marymount (2-2), which gained a 77-74 win over Albright College in Saturday's other first-round contest.
