STAUNTON, Va. - The Mary Baldwin women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season Thursday afternoon, defeating Penn State-Abington, 7-2, on the MBU Courts.
The Fighting Squirrels got off to a fast start, sweeping doubles action to take a 3-0 lead,
Hannah Eastridge and Virani Bhagat battled for an impressive 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles while Lauren Hodgkins and Liz Wine held on for an 8-5 win at No. 2. Kelsey Bantel and Svannah Trujillo controlled play to roll to an 8-0 victory at the No. 3 slot.
MBU controlled play at the bottom of the singles ladder to clinch the team victory. Hodgkins battled back after losing the first set at No. 3 singles to win the match. Hodgkins won an intesnse third-set tiebreaker 13-11 to take the win.
Wine at No. 4, Bantel at No. 5 and Trujillo at No. 6 each won her match in straight sets to close out the victory.
