Mary Baldwin Men's Soccer Offense Continues To Improve In 5-2 Loss to St. Mary's (Md.)

After removing the cover from the goal on Saturday with the team's first goal of the season, the Mary Baldwin men's soccer team's offense continued to improve by scoring twice in Tuesday's 5-2 non-conference setback vs. St. Mary's (Md.) at SMA Worth Field.

The visiting Seahawks (4-2-1) broke loose for three goals in the first 13 minutes of the match, including two by Elliot Hodges.

In the 21st minute, MBU got on the scoreboard when senior Lyeleson Tavarez made a strong individual move on the left side to beat the SMC defense and cut the deficit to 3-1.  Early in the second half, sophomore Phinnie Kamara made it 3-2 by converting a penalty kick opportunity.  St. Mary's put the match away with two more goals, including a PK, in the last 20 minutes for the 5-2 victory.

Freshman keeper Preston Bentley was credited with six saves for the Fighting Squirrels, including several acrobatic stops to keep the hosts in the game.  The MBU defense was also strong, blocking a number of SMC shots from point blank range.

Mary Baldwin (0-7-0) returns to action Saturday with a trip to Chambersburg, Pa., to play Wilson College, beginning at 2 p.m.  Like MBU, Wilson has scored just three goals this season heading into Wednesday's non-conference clash against Pitt-Greensburg (1-5).
