Mary Baldwin challenged two of the top teams in the USA South Volleyball standings Saturday and dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions vs. William Peace and Greensboro. The Fighting Squirrels suffered their seventh-straight loss and fell to 2-14 overall, 0-7 in conference play.
MBU opened the day with a 25-17, 25-17, 25-13 loss vs. second-place WPU. Sophomore
Emily Penny dished out 13 assists and had six digs while senior captain
Savannah Figueroa contributed a team-leading 11 digs after missing several matches with an injury.
The Fighting Squirrels followed that with a 25-13, 25-20, 25-17 loss to the host first-place Pride. Sophomore
Hanna Roach had a team-high seven kills vs. GC, giving her 11 out of MBU's 33 kills Saturday's two matches. Penny had 15 of the team's 18 assists and added six digs.
Mary Baldwin will be back on the court Wednesday with a conference match at Meredith (6 p.m.), followed Saturday by a Family Weekend clash with Salem at MBU's PAC (2:30 p.m.).
