Pfeiffer and Mary Baldwin Women's Basketball Friday Night Match-Up Decided in Buzzer-Beater

Despite starting the game with 16 points in the first quarter, the Mary Baldwin University Women's Basketball team stays in the game against its opponent Pfeiffer University that comes down to the very last second of the match-up. It was a close game the entire way through that was ultimately decided by a buzzer-beater shot from the Falcons' own Miya Horton, resulting in a 58-56 Pfeiffer victory over Mary Baldwin.

Tonight's game started in the first quarter with Pfeiffer scoring 16 to Mary Baldwin's 7, but the Fighting Squirrels countered in the second quarter by scoring 20 points to the Falcons' 9 points. Things remained neck and neck the second half as Pfeiffer scored 16 to Mary Baldwin's 11 in the third quarter and the match was decided in the end with Pfeiffer scoring just one more point than Mary Baldwin with an 18-17 split which ended the game in a 58-56 loss for the Fighting Squirrels.

The majority of Mary Baldwin's points came from #1, Aryauna Brent, who scored a team season record with 27 points coming from the freshman. Brent succeeded in 11 out of 13 of her free throws, collected 3 rebounds, and had 2 assists with her teammates. Other notable players were #20, A'Cetta Farrait, who contributed 9 points with 7 rebounds, and #40, Codie Heilig, who also put up 9 points towards the team's total.

Pfeiffer's scoring was led by #23, Hannah Isley, who scored 16 points out of the 58. Other notable players from the Falcons' lineup were #21, Peyton McPeters who put up 10 points and #4 Lola Cabiness-Ali who assisted her team by collecting 12 rebounds.

The Fighting Squirrels Women's Basketball team looks to continue its way through the USA South Athletic Conference by taking on Brevard College tomorrow (1/13) at 2:00 PM and playing Greensboro on Wednesday (1/17) at 5:00 PM.
