Seniors
Codie Heilig and
A'Cetta Farrait were both strong with season-best performances, but the Mary Baldwin women's basketball team fell short against USA South Conference rival Greensboro Wednesday by a 63-58 margin.
Heilig dropped in a game and season-high 20 points and added seven rebounds and three steals for MBU (2-15, 1-9 USA South). Farrait posted her second double-double of the campaign, scoring 12 points and sharing team-high rebounding honors with 10 caroms. Other top performers for the Fighting Squirrels were freshman guard
Aryauna Brent (12 pts., 9 rebs., 3 assts.) as well as juniors
Imari Knight and
Gianna Gilmore (each with 10 boards).
Tamera Hooker and Azuria Barrino each had 17 scores for Greensboro (2-13, 2-6 USA South), which played a back-and-forth game with the hosts throughout the 40 minutes. The Pride finally took the lead on a pair of Barrino free throws with 5:12 left and MBU was never able to get the equalizer.
MBU returns to action Saturday (1/20) as part of a women's/men's twinbill at North Carolina Wesleyan, starting at 2 p.m.
