A'Cetta Farrait and
Codie Heilig scored 19 and 16 points, respectively, but the Mary Baldwin women's basketball dropped a 78-53 decision at first place Southern Virginia in USA South Athletic Conference action Wednesday.
Farrait finished with a team-best 19 points, just missing the 20-point plateau for the third time this year, and added three of the team's four long-range shots, two rebounds, two assists, a blocked shot and a steal. Heilig added 16 points, including the other three-point goal, two rebounds and a steal. MBU's third player in double figures was freshman
Aryauna Brent, who posted a line score of 13 points, a team-leading eight rebounds, two assists and three steals.
Thirteen players scored for the host Knights, led by Aysia Foster with 13 scores.Â
MBU struggled from the field, hitting just 26% of their shots (13-for-50), including 21% from three-point range (4-for-19). Farrait and Heilig were leaders for MBU at the free throw line, combining for a 13-for-16 performance while the team finished 23-for-30 at the line (76.7%). Â
The Fighting Squirrels (2-17) return to the friendly confines of the PAC in Staunton for their next game Saturday (1/27) against Meredith at 1 p.m.
