William Peace Pulls Away In The Middle Two Quarters For A 70-60 Women's Basketball Win Over MBU

Mary Baldwin freshman guard Aryauna Brent tallied 18 points and senior forward A'Cetta Farrait posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to overcome a William Peace push in the middle two quarters as the host Pacers handed the Fighting Squirrels a 70-60 loss Saturday in Raleigh, N.C.

WPU's Tanaesha Ellison exploded for 33 points and 24 rebounds to lead the hosts, who outscored MBU by 10 points - the margin of victory - in the middle two frames.

The teams battled to a 23-21 William Peace through the first 10 minutes, but then MBU scored just eight points in the second quarter and was outscored 20-14 in the third quarter to fall behind by 12 entering the final quarter.  MBU cut the lead to seven on several occasions in the final minutes, but WPU held on for the win.

MBU senior center Codie Heilig chipped in 12 points and six rebounds while guard Gianna Gilmore added seven scores and nine boards.

The Fighting Squirrels are scheduled for three home games in the next seven days, starting Tuesday (1/9) against Southern Virginia (6 p.m.), followed by a Friday (1/12) matchup with Pfeiffer (5 p.m.) and a game Saturday (1/13) afternoon against Brevard (4:30 p.m.).
