Volleyball Team Falls To William Peace and Greensboro On Alumnae Weekend at MBU

Senior Alexis Edmonds and sophomore Brooklyn Prince both registered 17 kills on the day and freshman Kennedy Mills added 16, but Mary Baldwin came up on the short end of USA South volleyball matches against William Peace (3-1) and Greensboro (3-0) Saturday during Alumnae Weekend at the PAC.

The Fighting Squirrels rallied and went long into extra play in the first set of the first match, posting a 32-30 win against WPU before dropping the next three sets 25-15, 25-13 and 25-16.  Prince and Mills each had five kills in the first-set, MBU's first set victory in USA South play this year.  Junior Emily Penny distributed the ball well in that set, recording 14 assists, while freshman Alexa Ammerman played strong defense with eight of her team-leading 14 digs.

Mills finished the WPU match with a team-high 13 kills.  At the net, Edmonds had both of MBU's solo blocks and two of the team's block assists.  Penny finished the first match with 24 assists while senior Sol Rios-Rolon had 16 assists and seven digs.

After Greensboro defeated William Peace in the second match of the day, 3-1, the Pride topped the Fighting Squirrels in the third match of the day by a 3-0 margin (25-23, 25-14, 25-11).  Edmonds led the way with eight kills and a solo block while Prince had seven kills, a service ace and two digs.  Ammerman was strong on defense with 13 digs.

MBU will try again against USA South rival North Carolina Wesleyan on Wednesday (10/23) at 6 p.m.
