Sara Gruntowicz dished out a pair of assists, giving her a team-high 3 helpers for the season, to lead Mary Baldwin women's soccer to a 3-1 come-from-behind victory over Salem College in USA South action on a rainy Wednesday at SMA Worth Field.
Prior to the game, the women's soccer team celebrated the memory of Morgan Rodgers, a former member of the Duke University women's lacrosse team who died in 2019 at the age of 22 after battling mental health issues. Information on the Morgan's Message Foundation can be found atÂ

The visiting Spirits (4-5-0, 0-3-0 USA South) opened the scoring in the 10th minute of the match, lifting a free kick from 25 yards out just under the crossbar for a 1-0 lead. In the 23rd minute, junior defender Caitlin Brenner took a back pass from Gruntowicz and beat the Salem goalie for her first career goal to even the match.
Freshman
Stori Maybank then scored what proved to be the game-winning unassisted goal six minutes later to send the hosts to the midgame break leading 2-1. Maybank is second on the team this season with four goals and nine points.
In the 71st minute, sophomore
Harmony Crawford gave the Fighting Squirrels an insurance tally by picking up a loose ball on the left side of the cage and knocking it into the net. Gruntowicz got an assist on the play, which lifted Crawford to a team-leading five goals this season. It was Crawford's four goal in the last five matches.
MBU outshot the Spirits, 23-12 (11-4 shots on goal). Senior
