Mary Baldwin's men's soccer lost a 5-0 USA South decision to visiting Brevard Saturday, but thanks to other conference results this weekend, qualified for the conference playoffs for the first time since 2019.

In Saturday's game, Brevard (7-3-2, 4-1-1 USA South) built on a 1-0 halftime lead with three goals in a seven-minute span early in the second half to pull away for the win.  The Tornados outshot the hosts 21-3 (11-1 shots on goal), forcing MBU keeper Tucker Speak to make six saves.

After all matches were completed Saturday, the Fighting Squirrels (3-10-2, 2-3-1 USA South) are tied for fifth place with William Peace in the conference standings and have clinched a spot in the 2024 playoffs.  MBU will be making its second playoff appearance in the team's six-year history.  The previous playoff berth was in the team's first varsity season (2019), with the team dropping its first-round contest at North Carolina Wesleyan by a 2-0 count.

Thanks to victories over WPU and Pfeiffer, MBU has the tiebreaker advantage heading into Wednesday's final regular-season match at home Wednesday (10/30) against Southern Virginia (4 p.m.). If MBU beats SVU Wednesday, the Fighting Squirrels will host a conference playoff game on Saturday, Nov. 2.  If SVU wins or ties that match, MBU will travel for their first round playoff game on Nov. 2.

The playoff opponent, location and time will be announced after all matches are played Wednesday.
