Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Sloan Scores Career-High 32 Points In Men's Basketball Win At Washington & Lee

Junior guard Zach Sloan fired home a game-high 32 points, the third-highest single-game scoring total in team history, and Mary Baldwin overcame a slow start to secure an 83-76 non-conference men's basketball victory at Washington & Lee Wednesday.

Sloan drained 13-of-28 field goal attempts (46.4%), including 6-for-13 from long range on the way to MBU's second game this season with a 30-point scorer.  Senior teammate Jaden Ignacio set the team record with a 40-point performance in the opening game of the season against Wilson College.  In the first three varsity seasons, MBU had just two total 30-point performances.

Quintin Hart added 15 points and Ignacio chipped in 14 as the Fighting Squirrels erased early deficits of 19-7 and 24-11.  MBU closed the gap to 37-34 prior to the mid-game break, then outscored the hosts 49-39 in the final 20 minutes to improve to 2-1 for the season.

Junior Raymond Benton added eight points and a team-high nine rebounds for the winners while Sloan also contributed eight boards, four steals and four assists.

Colin Ryan had a double-double for the Generals, sharing team-high scoring honors with 14 points, grabbing a game-high 13 caroms and dishing out a game-high six assists.

The Fighting Squirrels, who have played four games in six days (including Tuesday's exhibition contest at Division I James Madison), have the weekend off before playing their first home game of the season Tuesday (11/19) against Christendom.  Prior to that game, MBU's members of the 2023-24 squad will receive their USA South championship rings, starting at 6 p.m.
