Alexa Ammerman was busy on defense for Mary Baldwin's volleyball team Saturday at Methodist, compiling a team-leading 22 digs and adding five assists and a service ace as the Fighting Squirrels played a USA South tri-match, falling to Brevard and the host Monarchs by identical 3-0 scores.
Ammerman had nine digs, three assists and a service ace in the opening match vs. the Tornados (14-11, 6-9 USA South), then recorded 13 digs, two assists and a kill against the Monarchs (22-4, 13-3).
Sophomore Brooklyn Prince had a team-leading five kills and four digs against Brevard while adding a team-best four kills against Methodist.
MBU (2-22, 0-16 USA South) will play its final home match of the season Tuesday (6 p.m.) against North Carolina Wesleyan. It will be Senior Night for the Fighting Squirrels, who will also be accepting donations of canned foods to support the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) participation in the USA South's annual "Cans Across the Conference" initiative.
