Graduate student Quintin Hart scored a season-high 20 points, but Mary Baldwin fell behind early and never recovered in an 84-64 men's basketball non-conference loss at undefeated Ferrum Thursday.
Hart canned 8 of 14 field goal attempts and finished with three of MBU's four three-point goals to lead the Fighting Squirrels (3-2), who snapped a two-game win streak. Junior
Raymond Benton posted his first double-double of the season with 14 points and a team-best 12 rebounds. Classmate
Zach Sloan (13 points) and freshman
Aimane Elbouazzaoui (12 points) also hit double digits for MBU.
Ferrum (4-0), which jumped out to a double-digit lead early in the first half, was led by Alfredo Abel-Rivera with a game-high 27 points. Bryant Wall added 16 points and a team-high nine rebounds for the Panthers.Â
MBU cut Ferrum's early lead to nine at halftime (38-29), and then to seven points twice in the opening minutes of the second half. Ferrum responded with a 16-6 run in the next four minutes to put the game out of reach.
Mary Baldwin returns to the friendly confines of the PAC in Staunton Saturday for a non-conference clash against Eastern Mennonite (2 p.m.).
