Mary Baldwin rallied from early-game deficits in both games of Sunday's USA South softball doubleheader at Methodist.  The first resulted in a 4-3 win over the Monarchs, but the hosts responded in the second game with a 6-3 decision and a split in the twinbill.

In the opener, Methodist scored the first three runs in the third inning, sparked by a two-run homer by Rachel Blanchard.  MBU bounced back with two runs in the fifth and two runs in the seventh to get the win.  Alison Crum, McKenzie Tillman and Molly Thompson had RBI hits to lift the visitors.  The winning run scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh.

Emily McCreary went the distance for the second time this week, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks while fanning three to improve to 3-2 for the season.

In the second game, Methodist held a 3-1 lead before MBU was able to even the count in the top of the fifth.  The Monarchs then doubled their total with three unearned runs on three hits and an error.  Amanda Blackburn's two-run, two-out single to right gave the hosts a three-run cushion.

The Fighting Squirrels (6-9, 1-1 USA South) return to action with a four-game road trip to Brevard Friday (3/29, 1 p.m.) and Pfeiffer Saturday (3/30, noon).
