The most successful semester in recent MBU history – dating back to joining the USA South Athletic Conference in 2008-09 – finished with the best news of all – academic excellence. Some examples:
- Nine of 13 MBU athletic teams posted a 3.00 or better GPA in the spring 2024 semester.
- Of 198 student-athletes (26 played multiple sports in 2023-24), 103 boasted a 3.00 or better GPA in the spring semester – including 35 with a 3.80 GPA or better and 17 with perfect 4.00 GPAs.
- As previously reported, more than 40 student-athletes graduated this spring along with a handful of graduate students and graduate assistant coaches. Twenty student-athletes graduated with Honors or Distinction. That's the highest total of graduating student-athletes since the University transitioned to a co-ed model.
- During the fall 2023 semester, MBU athletics had 215 unique student-athletes. In the spring 2024, the Fighting Squirrels still had 198 on the rosters. That's over 90% retention rate from fall to spring. The athletics retention rate from 2022-23 to 2023-24 was over 80%.

All that on top of the success of the teams, including several indoor and outdoor track & field medal award winners (top 3), the men's basketball championship and NCAA Tournament appearance, the second-straight season qualifying and gaining a victory in the USA South softball tournament, the baseball team equaling its highest win total in the four-year history of the program, both tennis teams each winning at least one match for only the second time in MBU history … and on and on.
MBU Athletics – always striving to improve!
