Sophomore midfielder
Anna Hill scored a pair of goals within an eight minute span late in the second half to lift the Mary Baldwin women's soccer team to a 3-1 come-from-behind victory at Salem College Wednesday.
The host Spirits (3-4-3, 0-2-1 USA South) opened the scoring in the final minutes of the first half with a goal just under the crossbar and off the outstretched hands of goalie
Amelia Cross. It was just the fourth goal MBU has surrendered in the last nine matches and snapped a streak of three-straight shutout victories.
MBU bounced back to even the match in the 64th minute when freshman
Molly Ludwig bound the back of the net for the team-leading 10th time this season.
Alexis Mansfield earned the assist by starting the play with a free kick near the midfield circle.
Hill gave the Fighting Squirrels the lead in the 75th minute, banging one home off a rebound during a scramble in the goal mouth. She added an insurance tally, her third score of the season, when she put a shot in the upper corner from 25 yards out.
MBU finished with a 38-14 shooting advantage (16-6 shots on goal) and had 12 corner kicks to just one for the Spirits. Cross finished with five saves in goal for the winners.
The Fighting Squirrels (8-1-1, 3-0-0 USA South) will be riding a four-game win streak and a nine-game unbeaten streak into Sunday's match against Meredith College, beginning at 2 p.m. at SMA Worth Field.
