The Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels came up just short on Senior Day, falling 2–1 to Methodist in a tightly contested match.
The Squirrels came out aggressive early, and it was senior
Mackenzie Shores who fittingly opened the scoring in the 13th minute, finishing off a slick assist from freshman
Molly Ludwig to put Mary Baldwin ahead 1–0.
Methodist responded late in the first half, as Kate Herndon netted the equalizer in the 42nd minute to send the game into halftime tied at one.
The second half proved to be another defensive battle, with both teams trading chances until the 87th minute, when Allye Carter scored the go-ahead goal for the Monarchs, sealing the 2–1 win.
The Fighting Squirrels will look to bounce back on the road as they take on the Pfeiffer Falcons on Saturday, October 25, at 2:00 p.m.
