The Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels closed out their regular season with a 4–1 loss to the Southern Virginia Knights on Wednesday.
The Knights jumped out to an early lead, taking a 3–0 advantage into halftime behind two goals from Xoie Warner and one from Delin Peterson. Junior goalkeeper
Amelia Cross kept the Squirrels in the match with six saves in the opening half.
In the second half, Peterson found the net again in the 85th minute to extend the Knights' lead. The Fighting Squirrels continued to press offensively, and junior
Eve Diep broke through with her first goal of the season in the 89th minute.
Mary Baldwin now turns its attention to the postseason, as the Fighting Squirrels are set to host the opening round of the playoffs on Saturday, November 1. Game time and opponent will be announced soon.
