Mary Baldwin's men's basketball team fell to Washington and Lee in its home opener, 76-63.
The first half was a game of runs, as the Generals opened with a 7-0 lead. The Fighting Squirrels answered and tied the game at 12. The rest of the half was back and forth, ending in a 33-33 tie. Senior
Raymond Benton scored 11 points in the half, shooting 50% from behind the arc.
In the second half, Washington and Lee showed its strength by scoring inside. The Generals shot 56% from the field and attempted only five 3-pointers. Connor Amorosi led all scorers with 24 points and Colin Ryan added another 20 for Washington & Lee.
Mary Baldwin pressured the Generals' ballhandlers, recording seven steals and forcing eight turnovers. Junior
Malachi Washington had two steals and added a block.
Mary Baldwin goes on the road for the Charlie Cobb Classic at Hampden-Sydney. The Fighting Squirrels face Hampden-Sydney at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22.
