The Mary Baldwin women's basketball team made its return to the court after a one-year hiatus, falling to Wilson College in its season opener.
The Phoenix took control in the second quarter, holding the Fighting Squirrels to just 11 points to build their lead.
Mary Baldwin responded in the second half, scoring 24 points in the third quarter to narrow the gap.
Davyne Johnson led all scorers with 25 points, connecting on 7 of 11 attempts from beyond the arc. Wilson was paced by two players who combined for 34 points.
The Phoenix made their presence felt on the boards out rebounding Mary Baldwin 54-26.
The Fighting Squirrels will be back on the road Monday, Nov. 10, to take on Bridgewater College at 7 p.m.
