Penn State Altoona rallied in the last inning of the first game to gain a 10-9 victory, then kept the momentum going early in the second game to pull away for a 10-3 victory in the second game against Mary Baldwin Sunday at Shifflett Field in Grottoes, Va.
In the opener, scored four runs in the fourth inning and four more in the sixth, including a three-run homer by
Tyler Smith, to take a 9-6 lead into the last inning. PS-Altoona then erupted for four runs in the top of the seventh, then locked down MBU in their last at-bat to get the win.
Trevor Hebner, who also belted a two-run homer for the Fighting Squirrels, finished with two hits as did Isaah Brooks.Â
Will Earnesty also chipped in a base hit and two RBI.
In the nightcap, the visiting Lions scored four runs in the first inning and three more in both the second and third innings to break loose for a 10-2 lead. Earnesty and Brooks each had RBI base hits in the game for MBU.
Michael Muller led the attack for the hosts with two hits and a run scored while
Tyler Morley scored the other two runs.
MBU returns to action Wednesday at Shifflett Field with a non-conference clash vs. Eastern Mennonite (3 p.m.), starting a stretch of five games in five days.
