Game Recap: Softball |

Crum's RBI Single Wins Game 1 As Mary Baldwin and Eastern Mennonite Split A Non-Conference Softball DH

Allison Crum's RBI single with two out in the bottom of the eighth inning of Game 1 supported an outstanding pitching effort by Emily McCreary and Reagan Frazier and lift Mary Baldwin softball to a 2-1 victory over Eastern Mennonite.  The Royals bounced back in Game 2 for an 8-4 win as the teams split the non-conference doubleheader Tuesday.

The visiting Royals took the early lead in the opener when the leadoff hitter doubled and eventually scored.  However, McCreary pitched out of any more trouble and shut down EMU for the next seven innings for her strongest starting assignment of the season, followed by a scoreless frame in relief by Frazier.

MBU eventually evened the game in the sixth inning on an RBI single by McKenzie Tillman, then scored the game winner in the eighth on a bloop hit to center by Crum, which allowed Jenna Dimicelli to race home for the win.

In the nightcap, both teams scored twice in the third inning and Crum gave MBU a 3-2 lead in the fourth with her second RBI single of the day.  EMU rebounded for three runs in the fifth and a two-run homer to right in the sixth on the way to the 8-4 win.

Crum and Tillman each finished the twinbill with three hits and two RBI for MBU (8-4), which returns to action Thursday at home against Shenandoah (2 p.m.).
