Mary Baldwin volleyball opened USA South conference play on Saturday with a tri-match at Brevard, taking on the host Tornados and Methodist.
The Fighting Squirrels began the day against Brevard, falling in three sets (18-25, 13-25, 12-25). Brooklynn Prince and Christal Newman each tallied 3 kills, while Kathryn Nguyen set the pace with 9 assists. On defense, Alexa Ammerman collected 8 digs to lead the back row.
In the second match, Mary Baldwin showed growth against Methodist, pushing the Monarchs to a competitive third set before dropping the match 3-0 (11-25, 16-25, 20-25). Prince again led the way with 8 kills, Nguyen added 12 assists, and Ammerman turned in a strong effort with 15 digs.
The Fighting Squirrels will play at Greensboro College on Saturday, September 27 at 1 p.m.
