The Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels earned a 1–0 victory over N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday, securing their USA South home opener at SMA Worth Field.

The Squirrels' defense came up big in the first half, holding the Battling Bishops to just one shot on goal while controlling possession and generating seven attempts of their own.

In the 68th minute, sophomore Anna Hill netted her first goal of the season to put Mary Baldwin ahead. Sophomore goalkeeper Amelia Cross anchored the back line in the second half, turning away six shots to record the clean sheet.

Mary Baldwin continues conference play on the road Tuesday, October 1, when the Squirrels travel to face Greensboro College at 5 p.m.
