The Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels split their Saturday doubleheader, finishing the weekend 2-1.
Mary Baldwin dropped the first match in straight sets to Regent University, 25-14, 25-19 and 26-24, but bounced back in the second, sweeping Warren Wilson College 25-18, 25-12, 25-12.
In the Regent match, Kennedy Mills led MBU with five kills while Sabrina Birts and Peyton Hall each chipped in four. Kathryn Nguyen dished out 14 assists while Christal Newman led the defense with 12 digs.
Birts led all players with five kills against Warren Wilson and totaled 14 kills over the three-match tournament. Freshman Newman and Hall each added four kills in the win. Birts, Nguyen and Alexa Ammerman all had two service aces while Ammerman paved the way with 12 digs.  The Fighting Squirrels served up 10 aces in the second match.
Mary Baldwin will host Mid-Atlantic Christian for their home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 5:00pm.
