Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Mary Baldwin Men’s Basketball Falls to Greensboro, 79–65

Mary Baldwin men's basketball dropped a 79–65 decision to Greensboro College on Tuesday night as the Pride used a strong second half to pull away.

Greensboro controlled much of the first half, holding the lead for nearly 16 minutes. Junior Raymond Benton kept the Fighting Squirrels within striking distance, turning in one of his best first halves of the season with 14 points, while sophomore Rony Hogarth added eight.

Free throws were a recurring storyline throughout the game. Greensboro made the most of its opportunities at the line, converting 14 of 16 first-half attempts. Mary Baldwin struggled to keep pace, knocking down just eight of 16 free throws in the opening half.

The Pride extended its lead to 11 with four minutes remaining before halftime, but Mary Baldwin responded with an 8–0 run to close the gap to three heading into the break. Both teams struggled from beyond the arc in the first half, as Greensboro shot 2-for-7 and Mary Baldwin 1-for-7 from three-point range.

Coming out of halftime, Greensboro began to pull away, highlighted by a dunk from Jeremiah Howard that pushed the lead to 12. The Pride outscored Mary Baldwin 41–30 in the second half, capitalizing on foul trouble among the Fighting Squirrels' bigs and scoring 28 points in the paint.

Mary Baldwin will hit the road Friday, January 23, to take on N.C. Wesleyan for the second time this season. The Fighting Squirrels will look to even the series after falling 77–74 to the Battling Bishops on January 6. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
