Sophomore guard DJ Via has been named the USA South Men's Basketball Player of the Week following his standout performance against Brevard College.

Via scored a career-high 24 points against the Tornadoes and delivered an all-around effort, adding four assists, three rebounds, and four steals in the victory.

"It's an honor. I've been working hard," Via said. "I went through a slump at the beginning of the season, and I appreciate my teammates for believing in me and my coaches for continuing to feed me confidence."

On the season, Via is averaging 7.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game.

This marks the first conference weekly award of Via's career and the team's first such honor of the season. Via and the Fighting Squirrels are back in action at home Tuesday, January 6 at 4:30 p.m. against N.C. Wesleyan.
