The Mary Baldwin women's basketball team dropped an 83–50 contest to N.C. Wesleyan after the Battling Bishops' offense found its rhythm early and never let up.
N.C. Wesleyan built a 45–26 advantage by halftime behind balanced scoring and efficient shooting. Des'Myah Croom and Anaya Hall paced the Battling Bishops with 16 points apiece, helping fuel a steady offensive performance throughout the night.
Mary Baldwin saw strong individual efforts despite the loss. Freshman
Lanie Bethel led the Fighting Squirrels with 14 points and narrowly missed a double-double, pulling down nine rebounds. Senior
DaVyne Johnson added 13 points, knocking down three of her five attempts from beyond the arc.
In the second half, NC Wesleyan's defense tightened its grip, holding Mary Baldwin to just 24 points after the break and limiting the Squirrels to only six points in the fourth quarter. While the Bishops controlled the paint and the tempo, Mary Baldwin did find success defending the perimeter, holding NCWU to 0-for-11 from three-point range.
Mary Baldwin will hit the road one final time this season as they travel to face the Southern Virginia Knights on Tuesday, February 17 at 6:00 p.m.
