Hood sweeps Mary Baldwin in high-scoring doubleheader

Mary Baldwin dropped both games of a doubleheader to Hood College at home Saturday, falling 13-10 in the opener and 12-6 in the second game.

Game 1

The first game turned into a shootout as both teams scored in double digits. Hood got on the board first when Kamari Chisolm crossed home plate on a double steal.

Senior Isiah Brooks opened the bottom half with a leadoff triple, setting up an RBI double from freshman Patrick Sido. Mary Baldwin added another run when a fly ball got away from the center fielder, allowing Sido to score.

Trailing by three in the third inning, Sido blasted a two-run home run over the center field fence to cut the deficit to one. Freshman Cooper Harris later drove in another run to tie the game before the inning ended.

A walk and infield miscues loaded the bases for the Blazers, and Sean Seely delivered with a three-run double to give Hood an 8-5 lead.

The Fighting Squirrels answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to trim the deficit to one.

With runners on second and third, Hood's Quade Gannon hit a home run to extend the lead to 11-7. The Blazers added another run in the inning to go ahead 12-7.

Mary Baldwin continued to battle, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but Hood held on for the 13-10 win.

Game 2

In the second game, the Blazers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning before senior Will Earnesty drove in Brooks for Mary Baldwin's first run.

Hood added three runs in the third inning, highlighted by Gannon's second home run of the day.

The Fighting Squirrels responded when freshman Conner Michael hit a home run to left-center field. Mary Baldwin added another run in the inning to cut the deficit to two.

The fourth inning proved decisive as Hood scored seven runs to take a 12-3 lead and pull away for the 12-6 victory.
