Mary Baldwin softball split a Saturday doubleheader against N.C. Wesleyan, winning the first game 3-1 before falling 10-2 in the second.
Game 1
The opener began as a defensive battle, with the Fighting Squirrels and Battling Bishops scoreless through three innings.
Mary Baldwin broke through in the fourth, loading the bases before senior
Breanna Donnell delivered an RBI single. Senior
Santrice Rush and sophomore
Hannah Bolt each added RBI, giving MBU a 3-0 lead.
N.C. Wesleyan answered with a run in the fifth, but Mary Baldwin's pitching held firm. Sophomore
Jenna Shull earned the win, allowing six hits and one run over five innings.

Taylor Shreck closed the game with two hitless, scoreless innings.
Game 2
In the second game, N.C. Wesleyan's offense came alive.
Trailing 1-0 in the fourth, Mary Baldwin scored its only runs of the game. Bolt tied it with an RBI single to right field, and freshman
Dana Micone followed with an RBI single to left-center to give MBU a 2-1 lead.
The Battling Bishops responded with an eight-run fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run home run from Kyiah Simmons, to take control at 9-2. Aleah Jones added a run in the fifth to cap the scoring at 10-2.

Mary Baldwin returns to action Tuesday, April 21, at Salem College. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
