Mary Baldwin softball split a Tuesday doubleheader at Salem, dropping game one 10-9 before falling 9-0 in game two.
Game 1
Mary Baldwin showed plenty of fight but couldn't hold off a late Salem comeback.
The Squirrels jumped out early and took control behind a big third inning. Home runs from freshman
Cassidy Branch and senior
Jenna Dimiceli helped MBU build a 9-2 lead midway through the game, with freshman
Dana Micone, Branch, and Dimiceli all turning in multi-hit performances.
Salem responded late, scoring four runs in the fifth before a six-run sixth inning flipped the game. Reese Upton's grand slam proved to be the difference as Salem took a 10-9 lead.
Mary Baldwin had one last chance in the seventh but was unable to bring home the tying run.
Game 2
Salem carried its momentum into the second game and controlled things from the start.
After a scoreless opening inning, Salem used a two-run second and a five-run third to create separation, then added two more runs in the fourth.
Mary Baldwin was limited offensively, finishing with just two hits on the game from Branch and Meriwether.
Up Next
Mary Baldwin will look to regroup as they finish the season Friday, April 24 as they take on Southern Virginia in a doubleheader starting at 2:00 pm.
