Mary Baldwin powers past Pfeiffer in series-opening sweep

Mary Baldwin opened its three-game series against Pfeiffer with a sweep, powering past the Falcons 15-9 in Game 1 before securing a 7-3 win in Game 2.

Game 1
Mary Baldwin used a big middle innings surge to defeat Pfeiffer 15-9.

After Pfeiffer jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, the Fighting Squirrels responded immediately with a two-run home run from senior Camden Bauswell to tie the game.

Mary Baldwin took the lead in the third on a sacrifice fly by freshman  Noel Cano-Rocha before breaking the game open in the fourth inning, scoring five runs. Senior Will Earnesty highlighted the inning with a two-run double as the Fighting Squirrels built an 8-2 advantage.

Mary Baldwin added three more runs in the sixth inning, with RBI singles from Cano-Rocha, Bauswell and senior Jacob Barber extending the lead to 11-2.

Pfeiffer mounted a late rally in the eighth, scoring five runs, including a three-run home run by Ben Mecimore, but Mary Baldwin answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to put the game away.

Bauswell led the offense with four RBIs, while Earnesty and Barber each added two.

Game 2
Mary Baldwin carried its momentum into Game 2, scoring early and holding off Pfeiffer for a 7-3 victory.

The Fighting Squirrels erupted for four runs in the first inning, taking advantage of a Pfeiffer error and stringing together RBI singles from Cano-Rocha, Bauswell and freshman Patrick Sido. Barber added an RBI groundout to cap the inning.

Freshman Cooper Harris added a solo home run in the second inning, and Barber extended the lead in the third with a two-run homer to make it 7-0.

Pfeiffer chipped away with solo home runs from Josh Jones and Ben Mecimore and added another run in the eighth, but could not close the gap.

Junior Sam St. Clair earned the win, allowing one run over five innings, while the bullpen combined to limit Pfeiffer's late push.
