Mary Baldwin volleyball and new head coach Robert Kocher opened the 2026 season at home against Bridgewater College, falling in three sets, 25-12, 25-14, 25-6.
The Eagles' offense was ferocious, recording double-digit kills in all three sets. The Fighting Squirrels struggled to get through Bridgewater's front wall, recording a team-high six kills in the second set.
Senior Sabrina Birts led Mary Baldwin's offense with four kills. Fellow senior and libero Alexa Ammerman recorded two aces and a team-high eight digs.
The Fighting Squirrels also received contributions from some fresh faces. Freshman Victoria Harrison added five digs, while freshman Ariana Guillen led the team with five assists.
Mary Baldwin will head to North Carolina Wesleyan on Friday to take part in a weekend tournament, opening against Mount Aloysius College at 1 p.m.
