Mary Baldwin women's soccer set a new school record Saturday, scoring 10 goals in a 10-0 victory over Averett University.
Mary Baldwin's offense dominated, controlling possession and attempting 34 shots during the game.
Sophomore
Molly Ludwig led the Fighting Squirrels with a hat trick. Her first goal came in the 10th minute following an assist from junior
Wynn Cordero. Ludwig put Mary Baldwin ahead 2-0 with her second goal in the 29th minute.
Sophomore
Joelle Hare scored her second goal of the season, while senior
Gabby De La Cruz scored the first goal of her collegiate career just before the end of the first half.
In the second half, MBU kept its foot on the pedal as senior
Makenzie Shores scored her first goal of the season in the 46th minute. Shortly after, Ludwig scored her third goal of the game and fifth of the season.
With a 5-0 lead, junior
Analise Moore scored in the 70th minute, followed by junior
Kendall Carr in the 72nd minute, junior
Anna Hill in the 75th minute and sophomore
Addison Hannigan in the 85th minute to give the Fighting Squirrels a 10-goal lead.
With the win, the Fighting Squirrels completed a Saturday sweep of Averett University following the men's team's 6-1 victory.
Mary Baldwin women's soccer will look to carry its momentum into next week when it takes on the Christendom Crusaders Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 5 p.m.
