Mary Baldwin women's soccer earned its first win of the season, defeating Wilson College, 2-0.
Sophomore
Joelle Hare scored her first goal of the season in the 37th minute, with sophomore
Molly Ludwig providing the assist.
Hare returned the favor in the second half, assisting Ludwig on her second goal of the season in the 67th minute.
Mary Baldwin's offense pressured the Phoenix defense throughout the match, taking 18 shots, with nine coming in each half. Wilson's goalkeeper made seven saves in the loss.
After earning his first win as the Fighting Squirrels' head coach,
Lionel Karyea credited his team for the victory.
"I really have to thank the girls. They did a fantastic job today," Karyea said. "They listened to the game plan and executed. It's not perfect, but we're getting where we need it to be. I also want to give credit to my assistant coach [Elena Guy]. She did a good job making sure we were ready."
Mary Baldwin will return to action Saturday, Sept. 12, when the Fighting Squirrels travel to Averett University. Kick off is set for 3:00 p.m.
