Box Score STAUNTON, VA - Freshman Mayzie Lewis led Mary Baldwin College soccer to a 7-1 win over Trinity (D.C.) this afternoon.
Lewis scored her first goal just over a minute into the game from a pass by Sophomore Brenda Santamaria. Mary Baldwin controlled the ball throughout the half but it took 35 minutes for the home team to find the back of the net again. Lewis scored the second on a breakaway. Kadijah Jones assisted the goal. The third goal followed quickly, when Junior Caitlin Novak passed to Lewis just over a minute later giving Mary Baldwin the 3-0 lead going into the half.
Mary Baldwin outshot Trinity 13-0 in the first half and also led with 7 corner kicks to Trinity's 1.
The second half proved to be much more even but the Fighting Squirrels were still able to build their lead.
At the 67:12 minute mark, Mayzie Lewis got her 4th goal of the afternoon off of another pass by Santamaria. Trinity quickly answered scoring their only goal of the game. MBC added another quick goal when Lewis passed to Kayla Childers on the left side.
Senior Captain Kallie Johnson scored MBC's 6th goal of the afternoon when Senior Captain Windsor Vaughn passed to her off of a free kick.
Mayzie Lewis scored her 5th goal of the day and Mary Baldwin College's 7th unassisted at the 78:02 minute mark.
Mary Baldwin College improved their record to 4-0 while Trinity falls to 0-4. The Fighting Squirrels start their conference schedule Sunday when they host Meredith College at 1:00pm.
