Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - After battling through two overtimes, the
Mary Baldwin College soccer team got its first win of the season
defeating Trinity 1-0 this afternoon in Washington, D.C.
At the end of regulation, Mary Baldwin held an 18-7 advantage
over Trinity in shots taken but it was then Trinity who couldn't
capitalize after having a 4-0 advantage in shots taken in the first
overtime.
Junior Brenda Santamaria was able to score the only goal of the
game at the 104:23 minute mark when she shot from 35 yards out over
the keeper's head giving the Fighting Squirrels the win.
Hayley Gillen played goalkeeper for Mary Baldwin and finished
with 5 saves.
Head Coach Homes Tehrani said, "We didn't play our best game but
we didn't give up. We had mulitple opportunities to win the
game but didn't capitalize."
Mary Baldiwn College (1-2, 0-0 USAS) will return home to play
Hollins University this Sunday. The game begins at
2:00PM.
