Box Score 2 The Mary Baldwin baseball team split a doubleheader with Greensboro College on Tuesday.
MBU lost game one 13-2 and won game two 8 -1. The win marked the first NCAA win in program history, after competing as a club team last year.
In game one, a single by Jakob King in the first inning gave MBU an early lead.
Greensboro tied it up in the bottom half of the first before adding on another three runs in the second to make it 4-1.
A pair of runs in both the fourth and the fifth inning by the Pride made it a seven run game.
In the fifth, a sacrifice fly by Dylan Rankin made it an 8-2.
It would be all Greensboro from there as the Pride tacked on five more runs in the following three innings.
In game two, MBU jumped out to another early lead as Dylan Weatherly grounded out but was able to score Juan Vascones from third.
Weatherly came through again in third, this time with an RBI single.
MBU put up six runs in the fourth starting with back-to-back RBI doubles by Justis Crawley and Jacob Cude.
Michael Robertson then reached on error that would score Cude.
A sacrifice fly by Colby Cheatham, RBI double by Mac McClintock, and RBI single by Cameron Geanas made it 8-0 Fighting Squirrels.
The Pride scored their lone run of the game in the 6th off a groundout to third.
Ty Webster pitched all seven innings for Mary Baldwin allowing just four hits and one earned run while striking out four.
With the win MBU improves to 1-14 and 1-10 in the USA South.
The Fighting Squirrels next game is on April 24 as they open a weekend series at Pfeiffer. First pitch is slated for 5:00 p.m.
