Box Score 2 Mary Baldwin opened its 2022 baseball season Saturday and the Fighting Squirrels lost both ends of a doubleheader at Marymount, falling 6-4 and 10-0.
MBU scored four runs in its first at bat in the opener. Michael Robertson led off the game with a double and Gavin Rush was hit by a pitch. Dylan Rankin and Jared Mayhew followed with run-scoring singles for a quick 2-0 lead. Jacob Cude drove in the final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly for a 4-0 Mary Baldwin lead.
Starting pitcher Tucker Hensley made the lead stand up with five shutout innings on the mound. Hensley allowed two runs while scattering 11 hits. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.
MBU carried a 4-2 into the bottom of the sixth, but the Saints rallied for four runs to overtake the Squirrels.
The Squirrels were limited to just two hits in the second game. Marymount blew the game open with a seven-run third-inning outburst.
MBU is back in action Tuesday afternoon at Eastern Mennonite.
