Box Score 2 Mary Baldwin opened conference play Saturday, losing both ends of a baseball doubleheader to Averett 15-1 and 16-8 at John Moxie Stadium.
In the opener, Averett pulled away with eight runs in the final three innings.
Mary Baldwin was limited to just three hits in the contest. Colby Cheatham was 2-for-3 and drove in the Squirrels' lone run.
In the second game, Mary Baldwin's offense came to life, matching the Cougars with 11 base hits. The Mary Baldwin pitching staff, however, issued 12 walks in the contest to aid the Cougars' output.
Michael Robertson wsa 3-for-5 and scored three runs to lead the MBU offense. Cheatham was 2-for-5 and drove in two runs and teammate Noah Kessler added a 2-for-4 effort at the plate.
The teams will complete the three-game series Sunday afternoon.
