Box Score 2 FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist University swept Saturday's doubleheader with Mary Baldwin, winning the first game 8-2 and taking the second game 18-5.
The Fighting Squirrels took the lead in the opener with a run in the top of the third inning. MBU loaded the bases on a double by Michael Robertson, a walk to Gavin Rush and a single by Colby Cheatham. Tucker Hensley scored Robertson with a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 Mary Baldwin lead.
Methodist answered with a six-run outburst in the bottom of the third and led the rest of the way.
Mary Baldwin added its final run in the fifth on a run-scpring single by Noah Kessler.
Kessler, Chase Davis and Blake French had two hts apiece in Game 1.
The Monarchs jumped out to a 10-0 lead after two innings to take control of the second game.
Mary Baldwin scored its first three runs in the fourth. Xavier Moore reached on an error and French followed wuth a single. Moore scored on a double by Owen Marshall for MBU's first run. Rush walked to load the bases and Robertson drew a walk to force in the second run of the inning. Marshall scored the third run on a wild pitch.
The Squirrels added their final two runs in the seventh inning. A base hit by Mac McClintock II started the inning. Dylan Weatherly was hit by a pitch and French walked to load the bases. Marshall drew a bases-loaded walk to force home one run and Rush plated the second run of the inning with a sac fly.
Rush and Kessler each had two base hits in the second game.
The team teams will complete the three-game weekend series on Sunday afternoon.
