Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Nary Baldwin scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning Wednesday to pull within one run, but Mary Washington held on for an 8-7 victory over the Fighting Squirrels in non-conference baseball action.
Dylan Rankin gave the Squirrels a 2-0 lead with a two-run double in the top pf the first iunnig, but the Eagles answered in the bottom half of the first with six runs to go ahead 6-2.
The score stayed that way until the seventh when the Squirrels added a run on a sacrifice fly by Tucler Hensley, but once again the home team responded, this time with two runs to stretch the lead to 8-3.
MBU rallied in the top of the eighth. Owen Marshall and Lucas Chinault got things started with back-to-back singles, Then, with one out Brady Ward walked to load the bases. Michael Robertson grounded out to chase home one run and Noah Kessler followed with a run-scoring double to trim the deficit to 8-5. Two more runs crossed home plate on an Eagles' error as the Squirrels closed to within 8-7.
Mary Baldwin put two runners on base in the ninth, but was unable to push across the tying run.
Kessler led the Squirrels with a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Marshall and Chinault each added a pair of hits.
