Box Score GREENSBORO N.C. - Mary Baldwin Baseball went on the road Wednesday and took on Greensboro College, losing by a score of 7-6.
The Squirrels jumped out to a one-run lead to start the game. After a leadoff triple by Michael Robertson, Noah Kessler plated the run with a groundout.
The Pride responded in the bottom of the first inning with a three-run home run by rightfielder Derek Carrick, making it a 3-1 ballgame.
The Pride scored again in the fourth inning to take a four-run lead before the Squirrels scored again in the top of the sixth when Dylan Rankin tripled and Tyler Morley followed with a sac-fly to make it a 5-2 ballgame.
The Pride responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth and another run in the seventh to lead 7-2.
The Squirrels battled back with a four-run ouburst in the eighth to pull within a run. With one out Rankin walked and Morley singled. Both moved up on a groundout with Rankin scoring on a wild pitch to make it 7-3. Pinch-hitter Tyler Smith and Colby Cheatham each walked to load the bases and Robertson followed with a two-run single, making the score 7-5. Chearham then scored on a single bu Kessler, pulling the Squirrels to within 7-6.
Roberston, Rankin and Morley each went 2-for-4 on the day.
MBU is back in action Thursday (March 23) when the team hosts Hampden-Sydney at 2:00 p.m.
