Box Score STAUNTON, Va. - Mary Baldwin hosted Mt. Aloysius College Saturday and won 8-2 to improve to 3-4 on the season.
MBU started out strong with four runs in the second inning. Tyler Morley walked and Gavin Rush singled to put two runners on. Morley scored on Ty Webster's groundout for a 1-0 Squirrels' lead. Brady Ward was then hit by a pitch and a double steal put two runners in scoring position. Both scored on an error for a 3-0 MBU lead. Tucker Hensley added a run-scoring single to make it 4-0.
Webster added anothr RBI-groundout in the third, putting the Squirrels on top 5-0.
After the Mounties got on the board with two runs in the top of the sixth, MBU answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning.Ward led off with a double and moved to third on a single by Noah Kessler. Ward socred on a wild pitch and Kessler crossed the plate on a single by Hensley to make it 7-2. Mary Baldwin scored its final run in the seventh on Morley's solo homer.
Mary Baldwin received a great pitching effort. limiting the visitors to just six hits. Starting pitcher Alex Belako went 5.1 innings, only giving up 2 runs with two strikeouts. He was followed by Lucas Chinault who threw 1.2 innings and allowed just one hit. Cole Webster tossed two innings and only gave up two hits.
Hensley went 3-for-5 on the day with two RBIs while Morley went 1-for-2 with 3 runs scored.
The Squirrels return to action Sunday afternoon when they host Mount Aloysius again for a doubleheader starting at noon.
