Box Score BUENA VISTA, Va. -The Mary Baldwin baseball team travelled Tuesday to Southern Virginia, completing the three-game series and losing 6-2.
In the first two innings, both teams went scoreless before the Knights struck first in the third inning with three runs.
The Squirrels answered with a run in the top of the fourth after a Dylan Rankin walk was followed by a Tyler Morley ground-rule double to put runners at second and third. Rankin scored on a Lucas Chinault sac fly to make it a 3-1 ballgame.
The Knights answered again. With three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to lead 6-1.
MBU added a run in the seventh after a lead-off walk to Jacob Cude and a wild pitch put him in scoring position for a Noah Kessler RBI-single to right field to make it a 6-2 ballgame.
Mary Baldwin pitcher Matthew Charles came on in releif and allowed no nits over the final two innings, but the Squirrels' offense was unable to rally.
For MBU, Michael Robertson went 2-for-5 on the day with a double and Noah Kessler went 1-for-2 with 2 walks and an RBI.
MBU will return to action when they travel Saturday, April 15, to play Brevard at 12:30 p.m in a double-header.
