MBU Volleyball Opens Season With 3-2 Loss Vs. St. Mary's (Md.)

Brooklyn Prince led a strong performance of Mary Baldwin newcomers in their opening collegiate match, but the Fighting Squirrels dropped a 3-2 decision to St. Mary's (Md.) at the PAC Friday.

Prince posted a team-best 10 kills and added 15 digs, 2 solo blocks and an assist for MBU, which won the first and third sets in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.  Classmates Sabrina Birts and Josie Sheets each contributed five of MBU's 31 kills.

Megan Stevens shared match-high honors with Prince, recording 10 kills for the Seahawks (1-0), who won the match by scores of 21-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-17 and 15-8.  Grace Caudell also had nine kills for the winners.

The Fighting Squirrels and Seahawks play again at the PAC Saturday at 10 a.m.  Both teams will then play Virginia Union to complete the tri-match.
